Big 5 Construct Saudi entered its third day at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center with more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 50 countries, four co-located shows and a CPD-certified conference programme running alongside. The August edition is built around the foundational phase of construction rather than finishes.
Big 5 Construct Saudi reached its third day on Tuesday at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center, with the exhibition running to Wednesday. The show opened on Sunday under the patronage of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, with Eng Fawaz bin Badr Al Shora, Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Industrial Services and Compliance, opening it.
More than 1,000 exhibitors from over 50 countries are taking part, and the organiser's stated expectation is upwards of 35,000 trade visitors across the four days. The theme is from foundation to future, built for every scale, and the programming has been consistent with it. Where the Kingdom's construction calendar carries several shows weighted towards interiors and finishes, this edition is deliberately positioned at the earlier phase: general construction, concrete, heavy equipment, HVACR and facilities management.
Four events are co-located under the same roof — Heavy Saudi Arabia, Totally Concrete Saudi Arabia, HVACR Saudi Arabia and Saudi FM & Clean. The combination is not accidental. A contractor working the halls can compare an excavator attachment, a concrete admixture, a chiller and a maintenance contract in a single afternoon, and those four purchases sit at four different points on the same asset's life.
On the exhibitor side, the organiser has highlighted Masdar, CPC Holding, NAFFCO and Al Yamamah Steel Industries alongside Lanmix, Masa, Gibus and Al Muqarram, with first-time exhibitors including Arkaz, Coastal Contracting, Hamte Group, TotalEnergies, Environment Icon, AlMekyal AlSaudi and Mectco. Al Yamamah Steel is showing structural steel for infrastructure and building work, CPC Holding integrated construction and building solutions, and NAFFCO its fire safety, life safety and security portfolio.
Running alongside the halls, Big 5 Talks is delivering a CPD-certified conference programme across codes, standards and regulations, health and safety, sustainability, artificial intelligence, technology, project management, concrete, modular construction and HVACR. Sessions this week have addressed navigating the Saudi Building Code, improving concrete quality, strengthening project governance, applying artificial intelligence in project delivery and improving coordination between HVACR design, installation and facilities management. Speaking organisations across the programme include the Saudi Building Code Center, ROSHN Group, Misk City, SEVEN, Al Kholi Group, Saudi Binladin Group, Modern Building Leaders, Kabbani Construction Group and Dussman Ajlan & Bros.
Sustainability has been routed through the halls as the Big 5 Impact Trail, which this week recognised Prime Middle East Trading Company for low global warming potential refrigerant solutions, Masdar for Kronospan products under a circular economy heading, and Al-Futtaim Engineering Company for integrated facilities management. The trail also spotlighted Galaxy Technology, Star Factory and Keller.
The visitor profile is what makes the four days worth a stand. The organiser expects upwards of 35,000 trade visitors, and the audience the show is built for is a working one: contractors, consultants, engineers and procurement teams comparing products against projects that are already awarded. That is a different proposition from a showcase event, and it shows in what happens on the stands, where much of the traffic is second and third meetings rather than introductions.
It also explains the weight given to the technical programme. A buyer who has spent the morning comparing chillers and the afternoon in a session on coordination between HVACR design, installation and facilities management is being sold a purchase and an argument about how to specify it, which is the combination the Kingdom's delivery phase currently needs.
The closing day on Wednesday carries the modular project delivery session, which sits in the part of the programme most directly connected to the Kingdom's housing and accommodation pipeline. For a show positioned at the foundational phase, ending on the question of how much of a building can be made somewhere else is a reasonable place to finish.
